Tasmanian Sailing Academy

The Tasmanian Sailing Academy has begun its winter training on the Derwent. The TSA sailors are now gearing up for a heavy schedule of sailing and fitness training over the next four-five months.

Some of the members are training for World titles in the coming months. They include. Chris Jones and Elliott Noye who are doing the Youth Standard Rig worlds in France in July as well as Sophie Chesterman, Jock Calvert and Dylan Gore doing the 4.7 worlds in San Francisco in July.

The training program includes Sailing on Mondays and Fridays at 6.30am. Fitness training at 6.30am on Tuesdays and Thursdays and Sail training on Tuesday afternoons at 4pm. Fitness training will be on the oval near the RYCT Dinghy Sheds and will include boxing and Circuit training as well as running up and down Nanny Goat Lane.

As in previous years this formula has proved not only to develop high quality sailors but it has also created a strong unified team. When it comes to having the winning spirit, teams that displays strengh and unity in the boat part will, in most cases have their competitors mentally beaten before they push off the ramp.
